Waiheke Social Media was formed by Waiheke residents Brent Simpson and Michelle Barber.
Brent has worked on the internet as a web developer for over 15 years. He was formerly Webmaster for The National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries (NICAI) at The University of Auckland where he administered the web site for the faculty as well as running the social media platforms. He is a Trustee of Waiheke Radio Community Radio and has a Masters degree in Media Studies from The University of Auckland. Brent is currently a teacher at Waiheke High School where he teaches Digital Technology, Media Studies, and English.

Michelle has extensive experience in the tourism, hospitality, accommodation and event services on Waiheke as well as working for several local wineries over the years. Michelle was previously involved in marketing and the performing arts having worked for University of Santa Barbara, Arts & Lectures, Southern California Theatre Association, LA Opera and for the historic Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. She is currently the event manager for the Jassy Dean Garden Festival and the Onetangi Beach Races.
